History

Resurrection of the Lord was established on September 19, 1981, formed from parts of St. Vincent de Paul and St. Gabriel parishes on the far western edge of San Antonio, Texas. Father Michael Kenny, who had served as Parochial Vicar at St. Vincent de Paul for several years, was named Pastor.

Resurrection's first location was an old barracks building on Tahoka St., which had been in operation as a mission chapel of St. Gabriel's to serve the people of Meadowood, off Pinn Road. The rapidly growing parish soon demanded a larger worship space, and masses began to be held at Meadow Village Elementary School, until a multipurpose building was designed and completed on the present parish site. The first mass in this building was celebrated on March 24, 1984. The present church and office building were completed in January, 1993.

On June 1, 1994, Fr. Paul A. Raaz became the second Pastor at Resurrection. In recent years, we have seen a gradual and steady development of parish programs and ministries to meet the growing and diverse faith community. A Pastoral Plan adopted by the Pastoral Council is included in this website. Recent construction includes a new pavilion and athletic concession/restroom facility.

In June 2006, Msgr. Adolfo Valdivia returned to San Antonio assuming the Pastor's role at Resurrection.

Parish groups, organizations and committees are preparing for our 25th anniversary.

Parish Policies

Sacramental Preparation:

  • Baptism of Infants: Parents of those being baptized should be active and participating parishioners at Resurrection. Call office to register. A pre-baptism retreat is required of parents and godparents.

  • Baptism of School-Age Children: Held each year, during the Easter Season, for children who have regularly attended CCD classes during the past year.

  • First Penance/Eucharist (First Confession and Communion) for School-Age Children: Children who have faithfully attended one year of CCD may enroll in the Sacramental Preparation Program in their second year, in preparation for these sacraments.

  • Adult Sacramental Preparation for Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist begins each year in September. Call the church office for details.

  • Matrimony: by appointment with priest, at least six months in advance. At least one of the parties must be a member of Resurrection, and both must be at least 18. A pre-marriage preparation program is required.

  • Anointing of the Sick is available upon request by calling the church office.

  • Godparents: Godparents for all sacraments must be Catholics who live their faith and participate regularly in worship.

  • Quinceaños: While not a sacrament, this traditional 15th birthday celebration may be held upon request for young men and women who regularly attend CCD classes at Resurrection. In addition, a Group Quinceaños celebration is held in June of each year for all who celebrate their fifteenth birthday during that year.

  • Mass Offerings: To have a special intention remembered at a given mass, please contact the office. Monetary offerings are not required. We greatly encourage the party making the request to attend and participate in the mass being offered for the special intention.
