History
Resurrection of the Lord was established on September 19,
1981, formed from parts of St. Vincent de Paul and St. Gabriel
parishes on the far western edge of San Antonio, Texas. Father
Michael Kenny, who had served as Parochial Vicar at St. Vincent
de Paul for several years, was named Pastor.
Resurrection's first location was an old barracks building
on Tahoka St., which had been in operation as a mission chapel
of St. Gabriel's to serve the people of Meadowood, off Pinn
Road. The rapidly growing parish soon demanded a larger worship
space, and masses began to be held at Meadow Village Elementary
School, until a multipurpose building was designed and completed
on the present parish site. The first mass in this building
was celebrated on March 24, 1984. The present church and office
building were completed in January, 1993.
On June 1, 1994, Fr. Paul A. Raaz became the second Pastor
at Resurrection. In recent years, we have seen a gradual and
steady development of parish programs and ministries to meet the growing and diverse faith community. A Pastoral
Plan adopted by the Pastoral Council is
included in this website. Recent construction includes
a new pavilion and athletic concession/restroom facility.
In June 2006, Msgr. Adolfo Valdivia returned to San Antonio assuming the Pastor's role at Resurrection.
Parish groups, organizations and committees are preparing for our 25th anniversary.
